This interior environment, titled "Attack on Las Vegas!", was a collaborative piece created using Unreal Engine 5. The scene takes place inside of a pinball machine, centered around the theme of aliens attacking Las Vegas. Our primary goal with this project was to play with the audience's sense of scale, and transform a compact pinball cabinet into a life-sized, immersive experience that would captivate and engage the viewers.
As the lighting artist for this project, I obviously took a lot of inspiration from the emissive lights of the Vegas strip and its casinos. My intention with the lighting was to make the pinball machine feel as bright and vibrant as possible, like a cinematic movie that was filmed in the city itself. To help achieve this effect, much of my time was spent researching and experimenting with various tools in Unreal, including Path Tracing, Post Process Volume, and the Cinematic Camera. The project also required me to do a lot of research regarding surfacing with glass and other materials in Unreal, and how various surfacing properties control the way light interacts with a scene. Overall, this passion project was a delight to work on, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing everything I could to make it a visual feast for the eyes.
